Feel the back of your baby’s neck or chest—if it’s sweaty or cold, adjust clothing layers. A good rule of thumb is to dress your baby in one more layer than you’re wearing. Breathable sleepwear, like organic cotton or bamboo, helps regulate body temperature.

Try the “5 S’s”: Swaddle, Side/stomach position (while held), Shush, Swing, and Suck (pacifier or feeding). These techniques mimic the womb and are often very effective in calming newborns. Every baby is different—try combinations to find what works best.

Yes, it’s completely normal for babies to shed the outer layer of their skin after birth. This typically resolves within a few weeks. Use mild, fragrance-free moisturizers and avoid overbathing to help keep baby’s skin soft and healthy. If issues persist, it might be time to see a pediatrician!

    Swaddling

Swaddling mimics the comforts of the womb. Since babies instinctively have the Moro reflex (i.e. when their arms fling up and scare themselves) up until around 4 - 6 months, this helps them sleep better with their arms wrapped in a snug little bundle. This may also help them sleep through the night better but in order for it to be safe and effective, you need to swaddle correctly.

    •  Do not swaddle too tightly around the chest or hips as this could cause dysplasia (i.e. abnormal hip development) but do it tight enough to create that snug feeling. Tip – make sure their little arms are straight because if they are bent, it makes it easier for them to break through!

    •  Do pick an organic swaddle made from a lightweight material, as thick fabrics and easily cause your baby to overheat, leading to problems such as dehydration or if serious, coma. Natural fabrics such as organic cotton and bamboo are great as they are not only lightweight but also breathable, allowing for greater airflow and keeping your baby cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They are also naturally hypoallergenic, helping to repel dust mites, mould and mildew. Our organic swaddles are made from a tried and true blend of organic cotton and bamboo, created for babies with eczema-prone and sensitive skin in mind.

    •  Choose one that is generous in sizing so that you can continue to use as your baby grows. A too small swaddle also makes it harder to wrap your baby in a tight snuggly bundle.

Swaddles are specially designed to wrap snugly around a baby, mimicking the womb and helping reduce the startle reflex. Blankets, on the other hand, are looser and meant for general use like tummy time or stroller rides. Although, our swaddles are large and multi-purpose so they can be used as a regular blanket as well!

Since babies have delicate skin, you want to pick something that is comfortable, soft and hypoallergenic. Both bamboo and organic cotton fabrics meet these requirements. Bamboo is a renewable resource and grows naturally without the need for fertilizers or pesticides. Organic cotton also does not use synthetic fertilizers or pesticides that can be harmful to your baby’s health. Bamboo fabric is incredibly soft and often compared to cashmere. It is highly absorbent, naturally odor-resistant and very breathable which is great to prevent your baby from overheating. Organic cotton is durable, highly absorbent and also excellent for sensitive skins. Both fabrics are excellent for swaddling or as lightweight blankets/stroller covers with the main difference being the hand feel. Our favorite is our 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton swaddles because it has the best of both worlds!

Yes. Organic swaddles are free from toxic dyes and synthetic fibers that can irritate delicate newborn skin. Our swaddles are breathable, ultra-soft, and designed to reduce overheating—perfect for peaceful sleep.

This will vary depending on your baby, but it will usually happen between 3-5 months. Typically when they start showing signs of rolling over, it's safer to transition to a sleep sack to reduce the risk of suffocation while still keeping baby cozy.

Most parents find that having 5–7 swaddles and 7–10 onesies is a good starting point. Newborns often go through multiple outfit changes a day due to spit-ups and diaper leaks. It's helpful to have extras on hand to reduce laundry stress.

    Clothing

A breathable onesie or footed pajama, paired with a swaddle or sleep sack, is ideal. Our bamboo and organic cotton sleepwear helps regulate temperature and keeps your baby comfortable all night.

Organic baby clothes are made without harmful chemicals or pesticides, making them gentler on a baby’s sensitive skin. At The Wee Bean, our fabrics are GOTS-certified organic cotton, ideal for babies with eczema or allergies.

For newborns, we recommend sizes labeled “0-3 months.” Our onesies, pajamas, and swaddles are all true to size, but always check our size guide for details, especially if your baby is premature or larger than average.

To preserve softness and longevity, machine wash on a gentle cycle with cold water and mild detergent. Avoid bleach or fabric softeners. Line dry or tumble dry on low. Our fabrics are designed to stay soft wash after wash.

    Bibs, Blankets, Towels
